ZONDA (named by AfG) came to our attention, when we were asked by a
couple if we were able to take in a young Greyhound who had been given
to their daughter.

They were worried as the daughter was in an abusive relationship and the
partner had a large aggressive dog, (who had bitten people and dogs),
who was housed in a shed and run in their garden.

We were of course worried for the Greyhound.

We had a suitable foster home for Zonda, so were able to collect her.

Upon collection, Zonda came for a nice walk with the hounds she would
share her foster home with.

She was a happy, friendly hound.

The girl had only had Zonda for about one week, she had acquired her via
the free ads paper and the ‘owner’ had dropped Zonda to the girls house,
he sad she was no good for racing. ( who ever had left Zonda there
obviously considered this to be a suitable home for a Greyhound!!).

We knew this would be one of a group of owners/trainers who were
becoming known to AfG and other rescues, for offloading their unwanted
Greyhounds quickly, usually with no homecheck and not neutered, with no
care for their future welfare and security.

Zonda was only age 3 1/2, we are unaware of where she had been
previously, she was slightly underweight and had several scars over her
body.

We contacted the girls parents to thank them for being concerned for
Zondas welfare and that she was now happy in a foster home with other
Greyhounds.

They told us, the house was rented with a no pet policy and they worried
that if the landlord found there were 2 dogs at the property, what may
happen to them.

After her settling in period, Zonda was neutered.

Zonda enjoyed the company of the other rescued hounds in the home and
her various walks.

She built up a close bond with Gem(see: GEM Greyhounds homed).

As Gem was off lead over parks and beaches, Zonda was never far from
Gem, so was able to enjoy her freedom off lead as she was friendly with
all dogs, adults and children.

Although no racing history was found for Zonda, we learned she was at
one time, kept at the racing kennels of Carl Appleton from Yarmouth, who
was known to have up to 90 Greyhounds on his property.

Zonda was so happy in her foster home, it soon became her forever home,
which is often the case with AfGs rescued hounds.

Zonda accompanied AfG on many events, including schools and care homes.
