ALFIE (named by AfG) came into our care as a six week old puppy.

Greyhound owner/breeder/trainer, Andy Trett from Norwich, attached to
Yarmouth Greyhound stadium, bred this litter and took the pup to the vet
with a broken leg, claiming he had accidently closed the door trapping
the pups leg.

Once the vet examined Alfie, with a fractured back leg, Trett was given
a cost for the operation which required an external fix to the leg
followed by 2 weekly vet visits to adjust the fix as the pups growing
stage will be rapid.

The fix would need to stay on for at least 6 weeks.

Once Trett was given a quote for the cost and possibly because of the
aftercare needed, he instructed the vet to put the pup to sleep.

The vet contacted AfG asking if we were able to take the pup into our
care and fund the vet fees.

We agreed and the vet explained to Trett they were not willing to put
down a pup that could be treated, so Trett agreed to sign the pup over
to the vet, who in turn signed him over to AfG.

Alfie settled into his foster home with the company of other rescued
dogs, they were very patient with him and he was contented in their company.

Puppies of Alfies age need a lot of special care as he was not even old
enough to leave his mother.

Alfie was growing so fast and the vets visits meant the bolts on the
external fix needed adjusting twice weekly.

He was such a good boy and never attempted to interfere with the bandage
on his leg.

A vet nurse at the practice had fallen in love with Alfie, from when he
first arrived at the vets and continued to see him on his visits.

She asked if her father could be considered to adopt Alfie once he was
ready to go to a forever home.

He was retired and had rescued Greyhounds for many years, he also had a
mid aged rescued Greyhound.

After the homecheck, we decided that once Alfie was recovered from his
leg operation and his inoculations were completed, that this would be
the most suitable home for him.

Alfie was well socailised already with other dogs and people.

Alfie settled in so well in his new home, as he was already used to
family life and he adored the resident Greyhound, who he built up a
strong bond with.

Photos above, by Greyhound Watch, show Alfie as a happy healthy
Greyhound who luckily escaped the Greyhound racing industry.
