BUDDY (named once adopted) was originally named SPUD by AfG as in foster
care he loved to steal potatoes from the kitchen to play with them.

We were contacted by our vet surgery asking if we were able to take in a
young male Greyhound age 13 months who had been brought in injured after
being attacked by a terrier whilst being walked.

His owner claimed he could not pay for any vet treatment so he had
signed the Greyhound over to the ownership of the vets to be operated on
and to be found a home.

It transpired, the ‘owner’ had brought the Greyhound as a puppy to train
and race and whilst walking him, a terrier attacked him causing severe
injury to his tail.

The police were called to the incident and Buddy was immediately taken
to the vet (quite by chance and luckily, it was the vet AfG were
registered with).

Buddys tail was badly lacerated and he had some minor puncture wounds on
his body, most of Buddys tail was beyond repair and once the vet
explained to the ‘owner’ Buddy would need an operation, having to
amputate some of his tail, the ‘owner’ claimed he could not afford the
vet fees and signed Buddy over to the vet.

AfG were contacted by the vet, asking if we were able to fund Buddys
operation and to take him into our care.

This was agreed and as well as having 50% of his tail amputated, Buddy
was also neutered.

He was crawling with fleas so was also given flea treatment.

After a couple of days recovering at the vets and now free from fleas,
Buddy settled into his foster home.

Here he had company of other rescued dogs, cats, goats and horses, so
after careful introductions were successful, Buddy happily settled into
his foster home.

He enjoyed the company of the other animals and as well as having a
large enclosed paddock to run and play in to his hearts content, he
enjoyed his variety of walks.

After a few months, Buddy found his forever home, he was a very spoilt
only hound but with his love of people, children and other dogs, he did
not miss out on the company of either on his various walks.

It was great to see Buddy grow into such a stunning hound.

Buddy often visited AfG on some of our events and he not only enjoyed
being in the company of the other hounds but being very affectionate and
attention seeking he lapped up all the attention he received from people
visiting our stalls.

Although dear Buddy experienced the bad attack from the other dog, he
did not seem traumatised by the experience and never showed any malice
towards other dogs.

Dear Buddy, although he experienced a short period of pain from the
attack and the operation, at least at just over 1 year of age, he
escaped being used for the Greyhound racing industry.

Buddy had ear tattoos, the only information we traced was, he was
registered with the name (fivespots) and born approx January 2003,
obviously being so young, never raced.
