Sex/colour: Male Black with tan and white
D.O.B: approx 2003-2004
Breed: Lurcher Greyhound-Saluki- Border Collie mix
Came to AfG: August 2005
SCOOBY(1) came into our care estimated to be about age one year.
The people who contacted us had two female un neutered terriers, one of
which had started a menstrual cycle.
They were trying to keep un neutered Scooby away from them but finding
it difficult as he could easily jump over a baby gate.
Needless to say, this situation would be very unsettling and stressful
for all dogs involved.
They had taken him in from a friend who had been made homeless, that man
had acquired Scooby as a puppy from people who bred and sold Lurchers.
So already Scooby was on his 3rd ‘home’.
He was young and typically energetic, quite scatty as expected by his
mix of breeds.
Luckily he was able to go to a foster home with other older rescued
Lurchers and Greyhounds and children.
So as the other hounds had a calming influence on Scooby he was able to
settle in very well.
As well as having a large garden to explore, run and play in, Scooby
enjoyed lots of good walks and free running over several large parks.
Luckily Scooby was sociable with all other dogs, people and children and
was great at recall.
It was great for Scooby to now have so much fun and freedom, he was also
a very intelligent hound, very willing to learn new experiences.
After spending a while in his foster home, he was spotted by Fran and
Tim who already had adopted Greyhound Abby from AfG (see:
ABBY-Greyhounds homed).
So after introductions were made, Abby and Scooby were happy together.
Once Scooby had time to settle into his new home, now fit and healthy,
he was neutered.
It was a joy to watch him continue to grow and develop into such a
stunning hound in such a great home with such a fantastic life.
In 2009 Scooby was joined by AfG Lurcher Rubi (see: RUBI Other
Sighthounds) as sadly Greyhound Abby had passed away with incurable
thyroid cancer in 2009 at age 11.
Photos below show Scooby when he came to his foster home, When he joined
Greyhound Abby in his new forever home then later on meeting
his next new canine housemate Rubi.
Photos above his page show Scooby(1)and with Rubi on a page of the AfG
2017 calendar Sighthound Survivors, beautifully photographed by Belinda
