FLUKE (named by AfG) came to the attention of AfG when a young lad was
wanting to get rid of him.
We had a suitable foster home available, so were able to arrange to pick
Fluke up.
We arrived at a shabby flat, greeted by two 19 year old men, who looked
slightly disheveled.
It was the middle of the day and they apoligised for being ‘out of it’
as they’d had a rough night of drinking.
We saw a beautiful young looking male Greyhound on a small bed, who came
to greet us.
When asked why the lad wanted Fluke to go and information how he had
required him etc.
He stated, he saw a man in a field with a shotgun and this Greyhound, he
asked the man about the Greyhound, who said “the dog is no good for
anything he will get shot”, so the lad took Fluke!!.
Of course we have no proof of truth of this story but were pleased the
lad had Fluke and was wanting a good home for him.
The lad told us he only had Fluke for a short time and couldn’t care for
him, as he was working 12 hour shifts leaving the Greyhound home alone.
We could see the cramped flat was not ideal living conditions for Fluke
and we did not bother to check the garden (if there was one) we had by
now, heard enough and were eager to get Fluke to his foster home.
Fluke was so happy to be taken for a walk along the road before we got
him in our van.
Fluke was so pleased to meet the other Greyhounds who he would be
sharing his foster home with.
Fluke was only age 2 1/2 years after competing in 12 races at Swindon
racetrack until August 2006, we wondered how he had ended up in Norfolk.
We contacted Swindon racetrack, explaining Fluke had been rescued but
they chose not to be forthcoming with any information.
Something we were used to expecting but the main thing was, Fluke came
to AfGs attention and we were able to rescue him.
Once Fluke had time to settle into his foster home, he was neutered.
We had several hounds in foster homes at the time and as well as having
a great article in a local newspaper to highlight our concerns of
unwanted racing Greyhounds being offloaded with no care for their future
welfare and safety, not once but often twice or more and we were only
being made aware of and rescuing some we knew of, the paper also took a
photo of Fluke with two other AFG foster hounds.
As a result of the article, Fluke and the other two hounds, found their
wonderful forever homes.
Fluke was very well socialised in his foster home and proved friendly
with all other dogs, adults and children.
Fluke found a wonderful forever home which he so deserved and went on to
experience new adventures.
Photos below, show Fluke at the flat when we collected him, and settling
into his foster home and enjoying nice walks and freedom.
Photos above show Fluke once adopted. Two of the photos By Greyhound
