RILEY  Came to the attention of AfG when we were contacted by a couple
asking if we could take in their young male Greyhound as he was too
boisterous and with their busy lifestyle and often looking after their
grandchildren they no longer wanted him.

They told us they had not had him long and he was racing round in their
garden and had ruined their lovely lawn!!.

We had a suitable foster home for Riley so we arranged to pick him up.

We noticed Riley was in good health and very friendly, also neutered, so
we suspected he may have been adopted from a rescue center.

The couple told us they could not remember where Riley came from and
they had no vet notes for him.

We were very suspicious of their claims and realised they just wanted
rid of Riley as fast as possible.

We said we would have to find out from Rileys ear tattoos where he had
come from (this was pre compulsory microchipping) and that if we found
he had come from another rescue, they would have to return Riley to
them, as if they had signed a legal biding adoption form, legal action
could be taken against them by the rescue center.

Things quickly changed.. they suddenly remembered where Riley had come
from!! and his adoption papers etc were quickly found.

We realised Riley had been adopted from a Greyhound rescue well known to
AfG and phoned to rescue from their home.

We explained the situation to the rescue and they, along with AfG feared
the couple may try to give Riley away elsewhere.

So with Rileys welfare and safety as the top priority, an agreement was
made between the rescue and AfG to sign Riley to AfG as we had a
suitable foster home for him to go to.

The rescue told us, one of their homecheckers had passed the current
home suitable for Riley and were upset and shocked that the couple had
decided to just want rid of him.

The rescue informed us that Riley had not been any good for racing,
competing in just a couple of races, he was about age 4 and a very sweet
Greyhound who was sociable with all people, children, all other dogs and
showed no aggression towards cats.

Once Rileys paperwork arrived to AfG we found his racing history.

Riley was able to go into a foster home with a terrier and a collie and
spent time around horses.

After just 2 weeks in foster, we had got in touch with a couple we had
met earlier on one of our fundraising/awareness events, who were hoping
to adopt a Greyhound but they had 3 small rescue dogs and six cats.

They were thrilled when we told them about Riley.

So a homecheck was arranged and Rileys introduction to the resident dogs
and cats went well and he was able to settle into his forever home.

He was so adored by his adopters and people who met him were amazed he
was safe with small dogs and cats, which just goes to prove, all dogs,
even Greyhounds are individuals, as many are misunderstood.

We were all relieved AfG got to hear about Riley and he was able to find
his perfect home and happy life.

visited AfG on one of our events.
