BOB(No:2)  As Bob seemed used to his name and at now age 7 years, we
decided to keep his name, especially after finding he had been passed
from ‘pillar to post’ over the past  five years.

We were contacted by a lady, we knew from local dog walks, that she had
taken in a large Greyhound as a friend of her sons had gone on holiday
for a week, asking her son to open his door mornings, leave food & water
and shut his Greyhound back in the house evenings.

It seems Bob was being treated as a ‘latch key dog’.

The lady and her son were so concerned for Bobs welfare and the
unacceptable ‘set up’ the owner had left the poor dog with, the lady
decided to take Bob into her home, she had a house rabbit and a small
female terrier and luckily big gentle Bob got on well with them.

We met the lady with Bob and her other dog on a dog walk and she asked
if AfG could take him as she did not really want another dog but had
taken him in to keep him safe.

We had a foster home for Bob with other Greyhounds and small dogs, who
we knew he would be ok with.

We explained to the lady, even though the previous ‘owner’ had no
concern for Bobs welfare that she would need to take an AfG adoption
form to the man so Bob could be signed to AfG for homing.

This she did and claimed she gave him a severe ‘telling off’ stating she
and his neighbors will be keeping a close eye on him, in case he
acquired any more dogs.

Bob settled into his foster home and his body condition soon improved
but he needed urgent dental treatment so he was soon booked in to be
neutered and received a much needed dental.

Our vet said the state of Bobs teeth for a 7 year old Greyhound was
among the worst she had seen.

We traced Bobs racing history and were not surprised to learn he was
another of Greyhound trainer/breeder/owner Peter Debenhams cast offs.

We later found out, the man Bob came from was his 3rd ‘owner’ since
Debenham offloaded him, which explained Bobs history for the 5 years
since his last race in 2002.

As Bob settled in so well in his foster home, his foster carers decided
to adopt him.

Bob was a big gentle giant and when in full health he was just stunning,
he was a big favorite when he joined AfG on many of our events.

Bob was friendly with all dogs and people and was able to be off lead at
parks and beaches so he could enjoy freedom and adventures to his hearts
content.

Photos below, show the state of Bobs dental disease when rescued,
settling into his foster home with canine housemates and improving in
health.

Photos above show Bob as a stunning healthy Greyhound fit, happy and
healthy. One of the photos are by Greyhound Watch, featured on AfGs 2010
calendar.
