PURDY another quick offload by Peter Debenham, a young Greyhound given to what Debehham felt was a suitable home!!
As always with Debenhams offloads, Purdy was not neutered.
AfG were contacted by her ‘owner’ who said he had Purdy for some time, asked if we could take Purdy in, as she was not settling and was left alone long periods while he now had to work long hours and did not have time to give her the exercise she needed.
He realised his home was not suitable for a young Greyhound as the garden was unkept and full of hazards.
Although the man was sad to part with Purdy as he had done his best to care for her, we explained he was making the right decision for her, as we had a very good foster home for her and she would have the company of another rescued hound.
Purdys physical condition was not too bad, apart from overgrown nails but she was nervous outside with traffic etc.
Purdy soon settled into her foster home, with a couple who fostered Greyhounds and Lurchers for AfG and other rescues and at the time they had another of our rescued hounds.
Purdy was thrilled to be with another dog and a big garden to explore and run around in.
After a short time settling in, Purdy was neutered.
Once recovered Purdy had time to carry on experiencing life in the outside world and the comforts of a great foster home, she benefited well from the company of her canine housemate so her confidence outdoors grew stronger over time.
We discovered, despite Purdys lack of experience in the outside world, she was a gentle happy hound who was friendly towards people, children all other dogs and even cats, nothing had broken her spirit to enjoy life.
It was not long until Purdy found her wonderful forever home, where she continued to enjoy great adventures.
It was lovely to watch Purdy develop into a stunning Greyhound with such a great character.
Photos below, show the property Debenham considered a good home, then settling in to her foster home, later in her forever home.
Purdy was featured on an AfG calendar (photographed by David Turner).
