Breed:   Bull Lurcher    poss Greyhound Mastiff mix

SCOOBY(2)  was still in a stray kennels long after his statutory 8 days.

The kennels asked us if we were able to take a very underweight
Greyhound, as other rescues who took dogs from the kennels showed no
interest in taking him.

When we saw poor Scooby, his condition was bad,he was severely
malnourished, he had discharge coming from his nose and eyes and had a
cough.

We explained to the staff, he was not a Greyhound but a large Lurcher as
his skull was too broad and muzzle to short but as he was so thin with a
long body and limbs, they assumed he was a Greyhound.

It was obvious by the size of Scobbys head, rib cage and feet, that he
must be Sighthound crossed with a large bull breed but was severely
underweight.

He had been picked up by the dog warden weeks early after taking time to
catch him, as he had been reported several times by members of the
public, so had been straying for sometime before the dog warden finally
picked him up.

We had a foster home with no other dogs ( which was good as it was not
clear if the cough was kennel cough, in some strains contagious).

First Scooby visited the vets who diagnosed a severe chest infection
which could have led to pneumonia if left untreated any longer.

So Scoobys vaccines and neutering were obviously put on hold until he
was fully recovered and his weight significantly increased.

Dear Scooby settled into his foster home , enjoying being fed many times
a day.

Once his medication kicked in, Scoobys cough and chest infection
subsided followed by a full recovery.

It was amazing to see how this beautiful young hound progressed with
proper care and he was soon running and playing over the parks and
intereacting with various dogs and people.

Once his vaccinations and neutering were complete and he was given a
clean bill of health from our vets, Scooby found his forever home.

It was uncanny that Scoobys adopter also had a rescued Bull Lurcher,
found around the same time as Scooby!! but went to a rescue center where
she was adopted from.

They were both such unique looking hounds, we are convinced they were
siblings, and somehow both abandoned.

When introductions were made, both hounds seemed to recognize each other.

Our vet estimated Scooby to be between 12 to 18 months of age and she
felt because he was young, he had responded to the medication and
recovered well.

Along with all the great care from his fosterer.

The lower 3 photos show Scooby when rescued, above them are Scooby the
darker hound and the lighter colour hound he is homed with, Willow (
very possibly his litter sister).
