CHARLIE
Sex/colour: Black
D.O.B: 01.08.1996
Breed: Minature Poodle
Came to AfG: August 2011
CHARLIE came into the care of AfG at age 15 years.
He had been well looked after until, sadly, his carer and devoted
companion passed away.
Charlie was put into boarding kennels as no other family members were
interested in adopting him.
As there was a clause on his deceased carers will, Charlie was not to be
euthanized unless by the authority of a vet, if Charlies quality of
life ever deteriorated and could not be treated or cured.
So although Charlie had been suffering for some time for an inner ear
infection ( often common with Poodles if the hair inside their ears is
not regularly plucked).
Charlie was receiving treatment for his ears by the vet and the kennels
were informed he must attend regular vet check ups.
Once AfG learned of Charlies misfortune, we were able to take him into
our care as we had a suitable foster home for him.
So the executors of the will agreed to sign Charlie over, so he was able
to continue his senior years in a family home again.
Charlies vet notes were transferred to AfG vets and just a short while
after continuing treatment, the condition cleared up and did not return.
He had regular check ups at the vets and at the dog groomers so the hair
inside his ears didnt have a chance to regrow.
Aside from his age, being slightly deaf and his eyes sensitive to bright
sunlight and cold windy days, he is a very active happy boy.
Luckily we also found a fantastic permanent home for Charlie with a
retired lady who preferred to adopt elderly dogs, as she felt she had
plenty of time to give them any extra care they may need.
So Charlie joined another rescued senior hound in his new loving home
and enjoyed the comfort of the home, playing in the garden and going on
various lovely walks meeting many other dogs and people…who of course
all adored this charming little character.
