MISTY (named by AfG)

A young woman from Norfolk was concerned for the fate of one of her grandfathers Greyhounds.

This young Greyhound had been adjudged ‘no good for racing’ after sustaining a torn tendon and she was concerned of what the dogs fate would be.

Her Grandfather lived in Ireland and raced Greyhounds there, whilst visiting him she asked him if she could bring the Greyhound back to Norfolk with her and once in Norfolk, the grand daughter  proceeded to place an advert for a home for the Greyhound in a free ad paper.

Luckily this was spotted by a member of AfG who were able to arrange to have the Greyhound signed over to us.

We had a foster home for Misty to go straight to.

We were concerned about the injury on her front leg, we were told by the Granddaughter of Woodcock, he had burned the leg as he believed this would tighten and heal the damaged tendon !!.

Once Misty was examined by our vet, she explained this was an extremely cruel practice she had heard of, which would not have healed the tendon but would have caused immense pain and suffering to Misty.

With experienced care the wound gradually healed along with a good diet and regular exercise.

Our findings were reported to the Irish Greyhound Board and the Irish RSPCA (ISPCA).

AfG had no response from either, so we are unaware whether any action was taken against the cruelty to Misty.

Luckily Mistys foster home became her forever home, she was a perfect hound, she adored people and children and was great with all dogs and cats.

She is now a happy young hound who enjoys lots of free running and adventures and unlike many Greyhounds, she enjoys going into water in the nearby river and at the local beach.

Misty often accompanies  AfG on fundraising/awareness events and is very popular being a great ambassador for the breed.
