PATCH was found abandoned in a rural area in Ireland, miles from
anywhere, so obviously just dumped.
He was tiny, undernourished and neglected.
Luckily a kind person found him, they checked the area for any other
abandoned animals but confirmed the pup was all alone and notified Clare
Greyhound Project (C.G.P).
C.G.Ps vet estimated Patch to be about age 8 weeks but could not be
certain as he was not ear tattooed and may have been a runt of a litter
and was suffering a complete lack of care.
C.G.P also had another young Lurcher pup in their care.
So as AfG had a suitable foster home with a carer who had plenty of time
and knowledge to be able to care for young Sighthound pups, we were able
to secure their rescue and agreed it would be good to keep two puppies
together as company for each other.
Once the necessary arrangements were made with DEFRA to be able to
arrange them both to be transported from Ireland, they arrived to AfG.
So Patch arrived with Lurcher puppy Poppy (see; Poppy(2) Other
Sighthounds homed).
They soon settled into their foster home with the company of various
rescued dogs, cats and chickens, so ideal for getting them well socialised.
Patch had not faired as well as Poppy who was a little older.
They both had good appetites so it was not long before Patch gained
overall weight and condition.
It was amazing to watch dear little Patch transform into a happy
confident pup, enjoying so many adventures and so much fun.
Once Patch was in good health he was ready to be neutered.
A family who had adopted a young Lurcher from AfG (see Bubbles Other
Sighthounds) saw Patch and ‘the dog gang’ out with his foster carer and
learned he was now ready to be adopted.
They had friends who were looking for a young Sighthound as they had
recently lost one of their rescued dogs and were besooted with Bubbles
already.
So arrangements were made for Patch homecheck and introductions to the
resident hounds, a big black Labrador and a little terrier cross went
very well.
So Patch settled into his forever home.
He continued to blossom into a strong stunning hound and although the
first few weeks of his life were dreadful, at least he escaped the
Greyhound racing industry.
Photos below, show Patch and Poppy arriving to AfG, settling into their
foster home and steadily growing, Patch in his new home.
Photos above show Patch as a full grown stunning Greyhound and with his
Sighthound best friend (Bubbles) who both met up often for adventures
and fun. Photos by William Moore, one photo of Patch featured on an AfG
calendar.
