BLOSSOM

Sex/colour:   Female   White

D.O.B:  approx mid-late 2017

Breed:  Greyhound cross

Came to AfG:  December 2018

BLOSSOM was found abandoned in Romania ( along with 2 other females,
believed to be her sister and mother), all were in an awful state of
neglect.

Luckily they were taken into emergency boarding kennels and received all
necessary veterinary treatment, including neutering and dental
treatment, to prepare them to later be transported into UK rescues.

Luckily AfG were able to take Blossom into our care, as we had a
suitable foster home.

The other two were also found suitable rescue placements here.

Once Blossom settled into foster care, a vet appointment was made, once
a full medical examination was carried out, the vet noticed two of her
nipples were swollen and infected, discovered to be an infection in her
mammary glands.

Tests showed Blossom had heart worm, so was immediately put on medication.

It seems, although Blossom was neutered in Romania, she must have not
long finished her menstrual cycle and was experiencing a phantom
pregnancy at the time.

Our vet discovered heart worms had traveled to feed from milk in the glands.

Luckily, over the weeks of treatment which followed, the heart worms
were eliminated.

Along with the excellent care of her fosterers, Blossoms overall
condition rapidly improved.

Of course she was helped to settle and gain confidence with the help of
two other rescued hounds, she shared her home with. A Greyhound and
Whippet cross Lurcher (see also Mervin).

Being young and once in full health, Blossom became a very active hound
and enjoys free running and playing but also enjoys lazing around on the
sofas and sunbathing in the garden.

It was not long before her foster home became her forever home, as she
had obviously settled in so well as ‘part of the family’.

Although Blossom and the other two hounds had suffered from the start of
their lives, luckily the amount of love and care they have now have more
than made up for it.
