SUKI:  came into our care with her litter sister Treacle (see Treacle).

A lady was needing to find homes for several small dogs, after her
father had become too ill to care for them.

We only saw Treacle and Suki as we were told they were the last two left
to be homed.

They were both in bad condition, so we may have been given the worst two
but it didn’t matter as we had caring foster homes for them go to.

We were told they were both about 8 years old, had been bred from and
had lived outside.

We were told they were litter sisters to the little Terrier Milly (see:
MILLY) who came into our care from this lady almost 1 year earlier.

No vet records were forthcoming, so we had no idea when/if they had last
seen a vet.

Before going to their foster homes, ( as both homes had other rescued
dogs), they were given a bath and groom and treated for fleas.

As shown in the very bottom photos below, Suki  had dry, flaky, sore
itchy skin, and bumps around her nipples ( which we had experienced
before in other dogs, which we believed were mammary tumors).

She was very lethargic.

Once settled into her foster and with her and other resident rescued
hounds all accepting each other and  making herself comfy on whichever
bed she chose, the next day she was examined by our vet, who confirmed
the bumpy areas around her nipples were bound to be mammary tumors.

Our vet agreed that her  itchy sore skin was likely caused by a flea
allergy, and from living outdoors being exposed to the elements.

She was concerned about her tender abdomen area too and suggested we
soon booked her in to be neutered.

After her neutering, our vet explained Suki had given birth to at least
one litter of pups and her womb was showing signs of the start of an
infection, she also found two more internal mammary tumors as well as
the ones visible externally.

Our vet was sure she had removed all tumors successfully but still
decided to send of biopsies of the tumors for testing.

We were later relieved to be told the tumors were fortunately benign and
as Suki was now neutered they were not likely to return/ regrow.

Over the next weeks, Suki became healthier, happier and more active, her
walks got longer and she began to enjoy her new adventures and had the
company of several other rescued dogs in the home.

Suki enjoyed her various walks over different parks and despite her
upbringing she was sociable with all other dogs adults and children.

Sukis foster home became her forever home.

She often came along with other hounds to many of our events, which was
just another adventure she enjoyed.

One day all three sisters ( Suki, Treacle and Milly ) met up and had a
great time together.

It was wonderful to see them all happy and loved in their great homes.
