D.O.B: Approx 2003
Breed: Whippet with possibly Saluki cross
Came to AfG: April 2016
SOPHIE came into our care as an unclaimed stray, after completing her
statutory time in a stray Kennels.
She was found in the North East of England and estimated to be a Whippet
cross age about 3 years.
We had a suitable foster home for Sophie so arrangements were made for
her transport to Norwich.
Once arrived she had a potter round in a small enclosed park where we
noticed she was lame on her back leg.
She settled into her foster home, with very knowledgeable foster carers
who noticed although Sophie was eating and drinking well, she was
coughing a lot and passing full grown worms.
At the vet appointment the following day, our vet ( being an orthopedic
surgeon) straight away diagnosed Sophies lameness was a cruciate
ligament injury.
She prescribed pain and anti-inflamatory medication as and when needed
and advised plenty of rest, restricted exercise and short lead walks.
The vet believed the cough was either kennel cough caught whilst in
kennels or due to the heavy infestation of the worms.
Sophie was treated for worms.
Her foster carers kept a close eye on Sophie noticing it was almost 7
days until all the worms were passed from both ends, when her coughing
also subsided.
Once checked again by the vet, an appointment was made for Sophie to be
neutered.
A short time after Sophie had recovered from her neutering, she found
her forever home.
Again, her adopters were very knowledgeable with rescue dogs and had
previously adopted Greyhound Fluke from AfG several years before.
Sophie carried on with restricted exercise and short walks for several
weeks until the vet confirmed the injury had fully healed.
Sophie then went on to enjoy the fun and freedom a young Sighthound
should have.
