BEX  was another young male unwanted racing Greyhound, quickly
advertised for free by his racing owner Mr. Jubb, who handed him over to
a young couple stationed at RAF air base, Lakenham Suffolk.

Bex was handed over to them at the Fiveways roundabout off the A11
motorway, near to the airbase, so no homecheck was carried out, Bex was
not neutered.

The couple had two small children, they responded to Jubbs advert in a
local free ads paper, Jubb told them he had a suitable young Greyhound
of about 12 to 18 months of age who had never raced, who would be idel
for them.

After a short time of two months, once they had obviously grown tired of
dear Bex, the couple contacted AfG as they decided they could not look
after him.

They said they had complaints from the base as they were letting Bex
roam free over the base (which of course is totally irresponsible).

Thank goodness they decided to contact AfG and not sell him, advertise
him for free, or hand him back to Jubb.

We had already done a homecheck for a foster carer but the home had a
cat as well as 3 rescued Greyhounds and Lurchers.

We were told by the couple that Bex took no interest in any other
animals on the base, dogs or cats.

So the kind foster carer offered to pick Bex up.

It was a sensitive process for her to enter the airbase but once passed
to enter, she was able to pick Bex up.

Bex settled happily in his foster home and was happy with the company of
the other hounds and cat.

Once settled, Bex was neutered.

When we checked Bexs ear tattoos and found his racing history, we
discovered he was 3 years of age and had competed in 20 races and trials
over a short period of time at several tracks countrywide from
05.06.2003 to 17.03.2004 at Yarmouth, Romford,Rye House, Hall Green,
Walthamstow and Milton Keynes.

So it was about time dear Bex was able to finally settle into a
comfortable loving home.

So the lies Jubb told the couple, were we expect to fit in with their
needs for a young dog good with children and with Jubb ensuring them Bex
had never raced and was around 1 year of age, the couple would have not
had a reason to disbelieve him.

As Bex had settled in so well in his foster home, his foster carer
decided to adopt him.

We were so happy that dear Bex would be settled with a safe, secure
happy future.

It is not often we rescue Greyhounds who are safe with cats and small
dogs, as those introductions require knowledge, time and patience, so it
was great that Bex (even though raced) was one of those calm gentle
hounds who showed no evidence of a strong prey drive.

Jubb and Daly were just two more people involved with Greyhound racing
(known by other rescues) to offload their unwanted Greyhounds with no
homechecks, un neutered, to anyone who would have them, with no interest
for their future welfare and security.
