IMP (named by AfG) came into the care of AfG at age 10 1/2 years of age,
timid and underweight.
We were approached by a woman when we were out walking our rescued hounds.
She said her and her partner had recently moved into Norwich into a flat
and they had an elderly Greyhound they did not want.
We told her we had a foster home available and we could pick the
Greyhound up.
We gave her our contact details.
We were concerned when we heard nothing.
The following weekend on a cold November day, we were holding one of our
regular stalls in Norwich City center.
We were surprised to see this woman again who told us she had lost our
contact details and can we still take her Greyhound.
We asked for her address and explained to her we would pick the
Greyhound up later that day once we had packed our stall up.
She told us she will pop back to our stall later!!
About 1 hour later, she arrived at our stall with a neglected little
Greyhound, trembling with no coat on, underweight and in poor body
condition.
We were worried that if we did not take little Imp there and then, we
would miss out on rescuing her.
We settled Imp behind our stall but as it was a cold day, we had no
accompanying hounds with us and no coat to put on Imp.
We contacted the foster carers who drove into the City to pick Imp up
and take her to their home.
Imp happily settled into her comfortable foster home with other rescued
Hounds.
She had a good meal and a rest.
We found no racing history for Imp and we have no idea where these
people lived or how they had acquired Imp or the period of time they had
her.
We had asked the woman why she no longer wanted Imp and why she was so
neglected, she said she was in an abusive relationship and her partner
got angry and violent and when he came home drunk on several occasions
he had tripped over or trodden on Imp.
She laughed when she claimed they called the dog Wimp as she was so
sensitive and timid.
Hardly surprising for an elderly quiet gentle hound when receiving such
harsh treatment!.
We had no idea where this couple lived but often saw them in the City
when on our stalls (whereby after handing Imp over to us that day, they
always avoided us).
We did learn from people in the City, who knew of them and we were told
that they had moved to a flat in Norwich from Yarmouth and were both
alcoholics and in a council flat where they were recently evicted from
after complaints of antisocial behavior issues from neighbors.
So it was a good job they handed Imp to AfG when they did, otherwise we
dread to think what her fate would have been.
We expect Imp was no good for racing and offloaded by an owner or trainer.
Imp was so happy in her foster home and loved the company of the other
rescued hounds.
Once Imp gained good body condition, she was neutered.
Imp is the calmest, sweetest little Greyhound anyone could wish to meet.
She enjoys her life, it is such a shame she had to wait so long and
suffer so much before she got the life she so deserved.
As Imp had been through so much and was now happily settled, she stayed
in her foster home as a permanent foster hound with AfG covering the
cost of her care.
